One imagines that diamonds being the hardest substance known to man should be strong enough to stop x-rays.
This however is not true.

Diamonds are made up of carbon entirely. The hardness comes from the from of bonds between the atoms and the rigid lattice it forms. This please note is entirely the function of electrons.
